What is Transdermolysis?

Transdermolysis is one of hair removal that is gaining popularity. This procedure is also known as “no needle electrolysis”. It may sound like it is a new technology, but the truth is that this has been used for more than a decade.

People like transdermolysis because it is a non-invasive procedure that does not cause much pain and side effects. There are actually two main types of transdermolysis.

- The first method involves the use of electric tweezers which pulls out hair right from the follicle.

- The second type is the one that uses cotton swabs which transmit low voltage electricity.

Scientists and researchers have questioned the efficacy of transdermolysis in the past (This is because hair does not conduct electricity). They argued that it is not possible for low voltage current to get to the follicle and destroy it which should result to hair loss and preventing hair growth.

Today, the procedure for transdermolysis involves the use of conductive gel which is applied on the skin. Then a cotton swab that produces low current will be pressed on the skin. This electricity reaches the follicle and then destroys the hair down to its roots.

This procedure may be done in specialized clinics. There are also devices that are being sold in drugstores, salons and even online which will allow you to do the procedure at the comfort of your own home.

Transdermolysis is perfect even for thinner hair. It can cause a bit of discomfort but it is almost painless. Hair loss may not be permanent but the plus side of it is that regrowth will take longer time. It may take about a few weeks and even months for some people. It also causes the hair to become thinner when the process is done several times. As a precautionary measure, it is best to stay out of the sun after doing the procedure because it can cause redness and irritation to the skin.

If you are looking for a permanent solution, it is best to focus on laser treatment or IPL hair removal. Transdermolysis is a good alternative for removing unwanted body hair if you do not want to tolerate the pain of plucking, shaving or waxing.
