Bleach Unwanted Hair (a how-to guide)

Hair bleaching can be a good option for those who don’t want to go through the pain and cost of hair removal. Strictly speaking, bleaching is not a hair removal method. However, it can effectively lighten the color of hair and disguise a hairless look as it becomes less obvious against pale skin.

Bleaching is an excellent choice for fine hair, such as in the face and arms. It is relatively inexpensive, as bleaching kits are commercially available for less than $5. There are also popular homemade bleaching procedures, details of which will be explained shortly.

Bleaching Kits

Kits for hair bleaching are available in many beauty and health stores. They include instructions to carry out the procedure. They usually include a bleach in cream form along with an activator liquid or powder. It is advised that you test a small area of the skin first before application to check whether the formulation will not cause allergies or irritation. The effect of bleaching kits usually last 2 to 3 weeks, after which, you will need to re-bleach again.

Homemade Hair Bleaching

Hair bleaching can also be done at home with the help of organic ingredients such as tomatoes, lemon, flour and papaya.

1. Tomato Bleaching

Tomatoes have natural hair bleaching ability that can help lighten hair. Simply cut up a tomato and apply the juice on the side of the skin (cleansed and dried beforehand). Leave it on for no more than 4 minutes, and then rinse it off with cold water. You can repeat the procedure as necessary.

2. Papaya in Milk

You can also bleach hair using papaya pulps mixed in milk. Make a mixture of these two ingredients until they form a thick paste. Apply it onto cleansed skin and massage with circular movements for 10 minutes. Leave it on the skin for about 5 minutes, and then wash off with cold water.

3. Lemon Juice with Honey

You can also lighten hair color with lemon juice mixed with 2-3 tablespoons of honey. Apply the concoction onto the skin and leave it for 20 minutes. Rinse off with tepid water and repeat as necessary.

4. Wheat Flour

Make a 1:1 mixture of water and wheat flour. Stir until you a get a thick paste. Apply this onto the area of the skin where you want the hair to be bleached. Once applied, get some sugar and massage gently on the applied skin area for about 5 minutes, and leave it on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
